Cumbuco

Cumbuco is a small fishing village in North-East Brazil, in the state of Ceara, a 35 minute drive from the international airport of Fortaleza, a city of 2.5 million inhabitants. The village continues to have an authentic character, without high rises. Situated on beautiful broad, white, sandy beaches with spectacular sand dunes, Cumbuco offers many possibilities. The ideal wind conditions, the calm sea and especially the vast lagoons amongst the sand dunes make Cumbuco one of the most popular locations in the world for kite surfing. Apart from that there are a number of other activities on offer such as sand boarding, horse riding, buggy tours in the dunes etc.

Around the central square, where soccer is played every night, you can find a number of local supermarkets and bars and restaurants. This is also the square from which busses to villages in the surrounding area and Fortaleza (appr. 40 minutes) depart.

The local population consists mainly of fisherman who take to sea every morning very early I their traditional rickety sailing boats (Jangadas). Fortunately, this charming and relaxed village has not been discovered by mass-tourism yet.
